Djahari has studied theatre and dance for over 20 years. Her tutelage
includes the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, London’s Royal Academy of
Dramatic Arts, UCLA’s Theatre Film & Television (where she received her BA),
as well as a handful of community organizations. She has studied classical
forms of dance (ballet, jazz, modern) as well as more ethnic forms (West
African, Belly Dance, and Persian Ballet). Along with directing her own
company, Djahari has also been a principal dancer with A. Nazemi’s Pars
National Ballet Company since 2000.
Though she is well-known for her theatrical dance company, Desert Sin,
Djahari has also been performing traditional forms of Middle Eastern Dance
for many years at festivals, restaurants, and private events. Through her
company she has produced several critically acclaimed events in both Los
Angeles and Off-Broadway in New York.
Djahari and her company have been
featured annually in Amara's "An Evening of Experimental Middle Eastern
Dance" (EEMED) and together Djahari and Amara co-produce the experimental
workshop series "X-MED," which provides tools and methods for developing
experimental/theatrical Middle Eastern works.
