Serena has had various dance training throughout the years, including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Polynesian and ballroom. Dancing has always been her passion and pursuit. Her love for Middle Eastern dancing began in 2001, when she observed a belly dancer perform at a Greek restaurant. Since then, she has studied with Angelika Nemeth and Lilla Varese in Orange County and is currently a member of their professional performance troupes.
Serena teaches beginning through advanced level belly dancing, focusing on Egyptian, cabaret and fusion style in Irvine, CA and is also available for private and semi-private instruction. Her teaching style also incorporates ballroom and Polynesian influences in her belly dance classes.
Serena’s performance experience includes, appearing on the International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance DVDs in 2005, 2006 and 2007, performing at various festivals such as MECDA’s Carnivale, Market at the Casbah and Raqs LA, performing at dance concerts at Orange Coast College and Irvine Valley College, and performing weekly at various Middle Eastern restaurants in the Orange County area.
In 2007, she competed with troupe Malaika in the Belly Dance of the Universe Competition in the group category and placed third runner up. She also performs regularly at private parties and special events. She recently travelled to Egypt in June 2007, where she studied and performed at the internationally recognized Ahlan Wa Sahlan Festival.
